This stunning mill was a highlight of our drive to Denver during the summer of 2019. We paused for the evening to capture a dusk shot of this picturesque spring and mill combo. Typically, I would use hot lights for any scene with flowing water, but for this project, I opted for Flashpoint strobes, taking advantage of their compact size and convenient wireless power adjustments. The combination of strobes with long exposures created a unique visual effect.
Built in 1894 by George Washington McCaskill, this mill replaced an earlier one on the same site. In its operational years, the mill processed wheat flour, powered by the consistent flow of the spring.
