Waldorf Astoria Orlando Photoshoot
From the beginning of my career in the late 1990s, I’ve been drawn to the world of hospitality photography, a journey that has taken me to some of the most prestigious hotels and resorts around the globe. My first major hospitality project was a week-long shoot at Marriott Marco Island in 2004, where I delivered 25 final images. While that number might seem modest by today’s standards, especially in an era where 4×5 film and minimal post-processing were the norms, that kind of final shot count was not abnormal
Fast forward nearly two decades to 2023, and I found myself once again immersed in the luxury hospitality sector, this time at the Waldorf Astoria Orlando. This project was unlike any other—a year-long, multi-phase shoot that required meticulous planning, collaboration, and an unwavering commitment to excellence.
The Waldorf Astoria Orlando shoot was extensive, with over 100 shots needed just to capture all the room types and angles. The complexity of this project demanded a dedicated client team that was not only accessible but also deeply involved in coordinating each shot. The success of a shoot of this magnitude relies heavily on such collaboration—it’s the difference between good shots and truly exceptional ones.
Phase one focused on capturing the grandeur of the ballroom areas and meeting spaces, showcasing the elegance and versatility that the Waldorf Astoria brand is known for. The second phase involved photographing the guest rooms, lobby, food and beverage outlets, bars, and restaurants, each space requiring a unique approach to highlight its distinct character and ambiance. The upcoming third phase will concentrate on the exteriors, outdoor spaces, and any remaining room or view shots, ensuring a comprehensive visual representation of the property.
Over the years, I’ve honed a workflow that allows my team to tackle even the most demanding shot lists efficiently, without ever compromising on quality. In the world of luxury hospitality, there are no second chances. Every shot must be perfect, not just technically but also in its ability to convey the emotion and experience that guests will feel when they step into the space.
As I often tell clients, the difference between an amateur and a professional photographer is the ability to consistently produce stunning images, regardless of the challenges presented by the environment. Whether it’s tricky lighting, tight schedules, or less-than-ideal conditions, a pro can deliver time and time again.
As we look ahead to the final phase of this shoot and beyond, I’m excited about the possibilities that lie ahead. The Waldorf Astoria Orlando project is a testament to what can be achieved when creativity, precision, and collaboration come together in perfect harmony.
